Significant reform efforts are made for the country
to evolve globally.  The main past and current
events are:
The economic open-door policy of Doi Moi in 1986
The normalization of relations with the United States in 1994
The signature of Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) with the United States in 2001
Aim to join the WTO by 2005 as Vietnam complies already to nearly 95% of the WTO requirements through the BTA
Vietnam's government is accelerating the pace of reform.  It is improving its international relationship, and aims to become part of the global economy.
