SAIGON
SOUTH PARKWAY OPENS TO TRAFFIC

(SGT-HCMC) Saigon South Parkway, the core route
in the new urban city, was opened to traffic on Saturday.
It links Tan Thuan EPZ with the National Highway 1A, and opens
new opportunities for development.
The completion of the first-phase will lead to the urbanization
of southern HCMC, the development of new industrial zones
and a reduction in traffic congestion in the inner city, said
the Minister of Communications and Transport, Mr. Le Ngoc
Hoan.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, he noted the parkway is
important to HCMC, whose development has been affected by
inadequate roads.
"HCMC should open access roads linking the inner city
with the parkway to increase its utility" he said,
and he expressed his appreciation of the road development
by the Phu My Hung JV company.
In a similar appreciation Vice Chairman Le Thanh Hai said
at the new road will facilities in the Saigon South Urban
Area are being established quickly. Mr. Hai said that electricity
from the Hiep Phuoc Power Station will be available soon and,
together with the development of Hiep Phuoc IP nearby, the
building of a seaport in the region is also being prepared.
Director general of Phu My Hung Corp., Mr. Lawrence S. Ting,
said his firm is promoting the development of five new urban
satellites along the parkway.
He also said his firm has set up three toll stations along
the road and will start collecting fees immediately the city
governments approval.
The first phase of the 17.8km parkway includes two traffic
lanes and ten bridges. Very soon in the second phase, Phu
My Hung will develop two further northern lanes.
