July 1998 - P.M. Phan Van Khai endorsed the new master plan of HCMC with Saigon South designated as the commercial, financial and service center of HCM City.

December 1997 - P.M. Phan Van Khai awarded a Certificate of Merit to Phu My Hung Corporation for the successful construction of the Saigon South Parkway and the Corporation's contribution to the socioeconomic development of the city and country.

April 1997 - Nha Be County was annexed by HCM City's District 7 to become the New City Center of Saigon South.
