ACTIVITIES IN BRIEF (Updated December 2011)

I. SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM (On 8 occasions so far)
• To encourage talent development in students of excellence
Has directly awarded 2,916 scholarships to talented students (~ USD995,200)
- University students: USD600 /year
- High school students: USD270 /year
• To support for students of poor families, in remote areas, children of minority races,…
- Given nearly 38,142 scholarships via other funds / associations
(~ USD1,429,420)
- Each student: USD30 – 60 /year
Total: ~ USD2,424,610
II. “MOVING FORWARD WITH IT” PROGRAM
• Purpose:
- to bridge digital divide for the country in the Internet age
- helps schools with IT equipment and IT application in teaching and learning
• The program started in July 2006. By October 2010: donated 113 computer rooms to 89 schools (mostly senior high schools) in 63 cities & provinces nationwide
- A computer room includes: 15 - 30 PCs, 01 server, network equipment, 01 projector, 01 printer, 01 voltage stabilizer, Microsoft licensed software (OS & Office)
- Stage 1: 65 computer rooms
- Stage 2: 47 computer rooms + 64 packages of laptop, projector
- Total number of computers donated: 2,707
- Exchange seminar and training for the schools were organized
. On stage 3 of the “ Moving forward with IT” program, Lawrence S. Ting Memorial Fund and Vietnam Department of Ministry of Education & Training coorganized the contest "Designing electronic & e-learning teaching content". It was highly evaluated by Department of Ministry of Education & Training. The contest gathered participating products from 12 faculties from Senior and Junior High Schools, Colleges and Universities. There were 3,130 particiting products from 49 cities and provinces nationwide. There were 81 excellent contest products after having selected which were posted on Education & Training website for all teachers nationwide could take reference. On February 26th, 2011, Department of Ministry of Education and Training, Phu My Hung JV Corporation and Lawrence S. Ting Memorial fund hold “E-learning teaching content design” Contest and Prize Awarding Ceremony in Hanoi City. All Expenses of Prize was up to USD 110,680 (2)

III. SUPPORT FOR SCHOOL FACILITIES
Construction of classrooms, teaching halls

• Donation of lab facilities for Physics, Chemistry, Biology subjects; learning languages via computers and projectors.
• Donation of devices connecting miscroscopes to computers (donated 103 sets so far)

IV. PUBLIC HEALTH CARE PROGRAM
. Support for construction and equipments for medical stations
. Donation wheelchairs to the disabled, wounded people: up to present, donated 8,516 wheelchairs ( including 776 three-wheelchairs)
. The Fund sponsored the expenses of the intricate hand surgery for children, living expenses for 99 children after heart operation.
. Donation of medical equipments to 7 hospital & medical stations from Medshare through Lawrence S.Ting Memorial Fund.

V. OTHER CONTRIBUTIONS TO COMMUNITY SERVICE
• Natural calamities relief
• Support for surveys, seminars, skills training, etc.
